Ratargul Swamp Forest is known as Amazon of Bangla or Shundarban of Sylhet. It is the only swamp forest in Bangladesh. This is even one of few fresh water swamp forest in the world.
Ratargul Swamp Forest is situated in Gowain River, Fatehpur Union, Gowainghat, Sylhet, Bangladesh. It is in about 35km northwest of Sylhet. During the rainy season, the depth of water is around 10 meters whereas during the winter it becomes 3-4 meters. This forest is an ever green forest with full of natural beauty. This place is even rich with various wild life, like birds, lizards, monkeys and snakes.
You can go to Ratargul by reserve transport from Sylhet city. Once you reach the Ghat, you have to hire a boat to reach the forest and explore the forest. It is better to hire the boat through forest division. It will be the safest option.
On the way to the forest you will find an excellent view of the river and the view of the forest from far. Once you will enter the forest, you will feel that, you are in a different world. A very quiet place, along with some natural melody. The floating boat, birds, are creating that melody. Trust me, even if you are not a quiet loving person but you will love the environment.
There is a watchtower in the middle of the forest. You must climb that. You will get a nice view of the forest from that tower.
If you want to know my opinion, this is a travel worthy destination. It is a one day trip from Sylhet city.
Be safe and keep your surrounding clean.
